Rehearse a scene

The player has three independent controls. Keeping them straight is the whole trick:

Mode — the pacing: what happens where your line goes.
Difficulty — how much of your text you can see.
Theater — a full-screen display toggle. It changes the view, never the drill.

Modes — pick by the job

Straight Through — Listen to the whole scene, your lines included. A warm-up, not a memory test.
With Gaps — A silent pause where your line goes — then hear your own recording back to check yourself.
Speed Through — Recall under pressure: the scene accelerates as it goes. Say “lines” if you're stuck.
Cue Mode — Perform it. The app listens, waits for you to finish, and records your delivery to review after.

A typical session: one Straight Through to hear the scene, With Gaps until the lines come without strain, Speed Through to stress-test them, and Cue Mode when you want to hear how you actually sound — it records each delivery as a take you can review after the run (your takes list appears under the player).

In With Gaps, the Normal/Fast gap-length setting trims how long the silence lasts. In Cue Mode the gap follows your voice: speak and finish, and it moves on; stay silent and your recorded line plays as a reminder (that take isn't saved). "Done" or Space always advances.

Difficulty — the memorization ladder

Full Text — See all text
First Letter — First letters only
Audio Only — No text

Climb when a level feels easy — the app suggests stepping up after three clean runs. The ladder is what makes the score meaningful: seeing full text can only take you so far.

Useful controls

Tap any line to start the run from there — it survives switching modes.
Playback speed (0.5×–2×) under Adjust; Speed Through adds its own accelerating ramp on top.
Theater Mode for an at-a-glance, arm's-length view with a scene minimap.
The weak-lines panel ranks the lines that cost you replays and reveals — start there tomorrow.

Keyboard shortcuts

On a computer, the rehearse screen — and Theater Mode — answer to these keys. They never fire while you are typing in a field, and Space still presses whatever button has focus. Press ? on the rehearse screen to see this list; Esc leaves Theater Mode.

Space — Play or stop the run (in a Cue Mode gap: done, next line)
← — Previous line
→ — Next line
R — Replay the current line (in your gap: hear your cue again)
T — Open or close Theater Mode
M — Cycle difficulty: full text, first letters, audio only
? — Show these shortcuts
